Objectives
The principal objectives of the AJ institute allied health science areto:

Establish institutions for learning and research.

Raise academic standards in the constituent units of the AJ.

Develop evaluation methods that rest students objectively.

Bring about capacity development of teachers.

Encourage both teachers and students to undertake research.

Enter into collaboration with higher educational institutions.

Undertake extension activities for the development of the community.

Develop and enter into collaborative programmes with Indian and foreign Universities and other academic institutions, scientific organizations and other agencies.

Carry out instructions and training, distinguishable from programmes of ordinary nature, for making distinctive contributions in the areas of specializations.

Provide for special training or coaching for competitive examinations, for recruitment to the Public Services, Public Undertakings and other competitive employment opportunities.

Develop students personalities as informed and objective critics, identify and cultivate their talents, train right kind of leadership, develop right kind of attitudes, interests and values.


Bachelor of Clinical Optometry
WHAT IS OPTOMETRY?

Optometry is the visual science that deals with the examination of the human eye for estimation of refractive errors and prescription of glasses, fitting and manufacturing of Contact lenses, Low vision Aids, Orthoptics is much more than eye exercises and other Optical aids.

WHO IS AN OPTOMETRIST?

An Optometrist is a health professional, who corrects the refractive errors of the human eye, fits contact lenses, and detects ocular related systemic and neurological diseases. In all eye institutions, an optometrist would work hand in hand with an ophthalmologist in diagnosing and treating visual problems. He would have important support position to the ophthalmologist and have inevitable role to play in eye care services.


Skills You Will Acquire
This four-year undergraduate degree programme will enable those passing out to become Optometrists, who can undertake –

Correction of refractive errors of the eye and prescription of glasses.

Detection of eye related systemic and neurological diseases.

Designing and fitting of contact lenses, aniseikonic lenses and low vision aids.

Diagnosis and Orthoptic treatment of Oculomotor malfunctions such as heterophoria and strabismus.

Primary eye care in schools, colleges, urban slums, rural areas and as Occupational Optometrist in industries.

Optometric counseling of patients with partial sight, colour blindness and hereditary vision defects.

Evaluation of health status and pathological conditions of the eye and visual system and referral of patients to specialist at the appropriate stage.
