B.Sc. RENAL DIALYSIS TECHNOLOGY
OVERVIEW

Kidney dialysis makes the difference between life and death for those who suffer from renal failure. B.Sc. in Renal dialysis technology course trains healthcare professionals in operating dialysis machines employed for patients having kidney diseases.

AJ institute of allied health sciences, Mangalore conducts a 4-year Bachelor degree program, that includes 3 years of theory and 1 year of internship by fulfilling the regulations provided under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.

Our institution provides high quality education in theory as well as in practical skills. Students are also posted for hands-on experience in a well-established dialysis centre where patient care is delivered round the clock under the constant supervision of a Nephrologist.

students are also granted direct access to our state-of-the-art AJ skill and stimulation centre managed by skilled and qualified professionals in the field of Renal Sciences and Dialysis Technology.

The course prepares the students to manage and care patients in haemodialysis unit, peritoneal dialysis unit, ICU, emergency care unit and organ transplant unt.

Candidates who have passed Diploma in MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY awarded by the State Board or an equivalent, are also eligible for direct admission to II year under lateral entry scheme.

The candidate seeking admission in our college shall have studies English as one of the principal subjects during the tenure of the course and must have passed Two Year Pre- University or equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and biology as main subjects.

Candidates who have passed Diploma in Operation or Anaesthesia Technology awarded by the State Board or an equivalent, are also eligible for direct admission to II year under lateral entry scheme.

Objectives

A candidate who chooses Dialysis Technology as his/her profession must possess knowledge and be competent regarding all the scientific principles of dialysis, as well as physical and emotional needs of the patient they are attending to.

The most important role of a dialysis technician is that you are the primary caregiver of the patients who are undergoing any type of dialysis treatment at a centre.

You are responsible for the direct wellbeing of the patient receiving dialysis treatment.

You work in close proximity with the patients and with doctors and nurses at the centre or at the hospital.

The career of a Dialysis Technologist is a promising one, as you will be playing a significant role in the recovery of your patients.

You start your career as a Dialysis Technologist, then would progress to Senior Dialysis Technologist, and finally become Chief Technologist. Thus, your proficiency and knowledge increases with your experience.

Schedule Of Examination

The University shall conduct two examinations annually at an interval of not less than 4 to 6 months as notified by the University from time to time. A candidate who satisfies the requirement of attendance, progress and conduct as stipulated by the University shall be eligible to appear for the university examination. Certificate to that effect shall be produced from the Head of the institution along with the application for examination and the prescribed fee.

Scheme Of Examination

There shall be three theory examinations, one each at the end of I,II and III year. The examination for both main and subsidiary subjects for all courses in Allied Health Sciences shall be common in the First Year. Distribution of Subjects and marks are shown in Table – IV, V, VI & VII.

First Year Examination

The University examination for 1st Year shall consist of only theory examination, and there shall be no University Practical Examination. Written Examinations consists of

05 papers in the First Year.

Second & Third-Year Examination

The University examination for second and 3rd Year shall consist of Written Examination &Practical. Written Examinations consists of

05 papers in the 2nd Year.

02 papers in the 3rd Year.

Practical Examination

Two practical examinations, at the end 2nd Year.

Two practical examinations at the end of the 3rd Year.

Internship Training

Twelve-month compulsory rotational postings during the internship, which students have to work under the supervision of experienced staff in the following areas:

ICU Dialysis

Paediatric dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis

CRRT

Plasmapheresis

Haemodialysis

Nephrology Procedure room

Two Weeks Posting with Kidney transplant coordinator

Two Week Posting in Emergency Department

The demand of Renal Dialysis Technologist has seen an increase in 5-10 years across the globe.

Dialysis Technologist

As a dialysis therapist its your responsibility to provide dialysis treatment for renal failure patients.

You have to analyse the condition of the patients and adjust the machine accordingly.

You are responsible to perform various procedure associated with patient care.

Responsible for operating the dialysis machine.

Educate and train peritoneal dialysis patient.

Clinical Coordinator

You are responsible to organise and oversee the administrative aspect of the dialysis unit.
