B.Sc. NEUROSCIENCE TECHNOLOGY
OVERVIEW

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Neuroscience Technology (NST) is a 4 years undergraduate course in the field of health care concerned with the use of technology and equipment in the scientific use of the nervous system.

Neuroscience deals with the structure and function of the nervous system.

The scope of neuroscience technology is continuously broadening and qualified professionals of the discipline can seek both medical and non- medical career opportunities.

The candidates are trained in both theoretical and practical aspect of neuroscience technology This is also improved by hands on training in well advanced Neurodiagnostic lab of our institute during their academic period.

Graduates are eligible for employment overseas where their qualifications, training and experience are highly regarded. With further experience, graduates may be employed by medical equipment manufacturers and development specialists.

The candidate seeking admission in our college shall have studies English as one of the principal subject during the tenure of the course and must have passed Two Year Pre-University or equivalent examination with physics, chemistry and biology as main subjects. OR
Candidates who have passed Diploma in Neuroscience Technology awarded by the State Board or an equivalent, are also eligible for direct admission to II year under lateral entry scheme.

Objectives Of The Course

Observe and practice the basic role of EMT in emergency department- triaging primary assessment – ABCD approach.

Observe and practice to identify life-threatening situation.

Observe and practice to use defibrillator and AED.

To learn, observe and practice route of drug administration- Intramuscular,intravenous, intradermal and subcutaneous.

Observe and practice the procedures of urinary catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion and to prepare infusions.

Observe and practice to interpret normal ECG waves.

To learn, observe and practice the initial assessment/primary assessment and secondary assessment of patient with trauma ( face , neck , skull, abdomen, thoracic, cardiac and pelvic trauma ).



Objectives Of The Course

To develop a strong knowledge in neuroanatomy, physiology and pathophysiology as well as pharmacology, fetal and neonatal brain development and neuroscience.

Conduct various clinical and technical tests in autonomic lab & neuro- electrophysiological lab by performing the procedures independently and interpreting the findings with the help of the clinician.

To have critical analysis and good reasoning skills to provide accurate data analysis.

To obtain knowledge and practice basic patient care and to coordinate with other members of the team by protecting the rights of the patient, Ethical and legal issues and responsibilities to maintain professional confidentiality.

Internship Training

Duration - 1 year.

At the end of the course the candidates must be able to perform diagnostic procedures like Nerve conduction study, Electroencephalography, autonomic function tests, Electromyography, polysomnography studies.

Well trained with the patient preparation techniques before or during performing the tests.

Assisting Neurologists during EMG guided injections.

Well trained with the skill for early detection of various neurological conditions and pathologies by performing various neurodiagnostic tests.

To diagnose seizure patterns in various patients by conducting EEG tests.



Career Prospects

After completion of the course, the candidates can choose to pursue their education or can start working in areas such as Hospitals, Community health centers, medical colleges/ Universities.

They can work as a Neurotechnologist, Lecturer or even work in intraoperative neuro monitoring units under neurosurgeons etc.,

As the outcome of this course a Neuroscience Technology graduate can accomplish the following roles.

Neuro technologist or Neurophysiology technologist.

Sleep lab technologist.

Tutor or lecturer in Medical colleges.

Patient care coordinator.

Clinical instructor or coordinator.
