B.Sc. MEDICAL IMAGING TECHNOLOGY
OVERVIEW

Medical Imaging technology is a study of the techniques to perform imaging of a human beings in radiology departments like X-ray, CT, MRI etc., for diagnosis of disease. A.J. institute of allied health sciences, Mangalore conducts a 4-year Bachelor degree program, that includes 3 years of Academic program plus 1 year of internship by fulfilling the regulations provided under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. Our institution provides high quality education in theory as well as in practical skills. The course prepares the students to handle of modern imaging equipment’s like X-ray, CT scan, MRI, Mammography, Fluoroscopy Etc., and also train the students to manage radiation hazards and patient care. In India the number of hospitals with Radiology Department with X Ray, CT scan, MRI and Mammography facilities are more, for these health care institute qualified Medial Imaging technologist are in great demand. These technologist work as apart of a team with Radiologist, Physicians, Surgeons and other medical Specialists.

Objectives

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology course aims at fulfilling the following major objectives:

To help in knowing about general anatomy and Physiology of the human body so that the graduates can successfully read the body parts on the radiographs.

Train to Provide better patient care.

To educate and train the students to become a good imaging technologist and enable them to independently manage all the equipment’s available in the field of Radiodiagnosis and imaging.

Making aware of various Radiation safety measures meant for patient, staff and general public.

Promote continual learning and profession increasing the effectiveness of the health care delivery.

Eligibility Criteria

For Admission to the course, candidates need to have qualified pre-degree from a recognized educational board with a minimum aggregate score of 50% with Physics, chemistry and Biology as main subjects or Candidates who have completed diploma in medical imaging technology from recognized government board.

Schedule of Examination

The University shall conduct two examinations annually at an interval of not less than 4 to 6 months as notified by the University from time to time. A candidate who satisfies the requirement of attendance, progress and conduct as stipulated by the University shall be eligible to appear for the university examination. Certificate to that effect shall be produced from the Head of the institution along with the application for examination and the prescribed fee.

Scheme of Examination

There shall be three theory examinations, one each at the end of I, II and III years. The examination for both main and subsidiary subjects for all courses in Allied Health Sciences shall be common in the First Year.

First Year Examination

The University examination for 1st Year shall consist of only theory examination, and there shall be no University Practical Examination.

Written Examinations Consists of

05 papers in the First Year.

Second & Third-year Examination

The University examination for second and 3rd Year shall consist of Written Examination &Practical.

Written Examinations Consists of

03 papers in the 2 nd Year.

02 papers in the 3 rd Year.

Practical Examinations Consist of

One practical examination, at the end 2nd Year.

Two practical examinations at the end of the 3rd Year.


Internship Training

Twelve-month compulsory rotational postings during the internship, which students should be able to perform the following:

Training: Computed Radiography, Digital Radiography, Portable Radiography, Mammography, DEXA, Dental Radiography, Fluoroscopy, USG, CT, MRI, SPECT, PET, Cath Lab.

Patient positioning and sick patient handling.

Radiation protection measures.

Films and Reports Dispatch procedure.

Quality control Procedure.

Maintenance of logbook and registers.

Career Opportunities

Pursue Master’s Degree

Specialise in any of the Imaging Modalities.

Work as imaging technologist in hospital and clinics with radio diagnostic facilities like X-Ray, CT scan, MRI etc.

Work as an application Specialist in Medical imaging equipment companies like Siemens, Philips, GE.

Work in educational institutions.


M.Sc Medical Imaging Technology
OVERVIEW

The programme is designed for Radiographers wishing to explore, reflect upon and develop the individual learning achieved through the day to day activities in radiographic professional practice. To explore the foundation science and safety principles in Medical Imaging Technology. Enhance knowledge from clinical experience, interactions & discussions and research to improve the quality of training and education in Medical Imaging. Explore the subject in depth and develop high degree of expertise to contribute to advancement of knowledge in Medical Imaging. Develop teaching and presentation skills necessary to become efficient teachers utilizing state-of-the art facilities and equipment’s. Build Up leadership qualities in education, practice and administration Contribute to emerging and vitally important industry through research. To provide with the skills and knowledge to apply for critical appraisal of day to day practice.

Objective

This course provides medical imaging technologists with an understanding of the physical principles as well as theories involved in diagnostic imaging modalities.For each imaging modality, the image formation process along with image quality metrics and their relationship to the image appearance are also discussed. The course objective is also to provide the imaging technologist and understanding of current technologies as well as the physical principles that drive image quality and radiation dose

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have passed final year BSc Medical imaging Technology with 60 % marks.

Course Duration

The duration of the course shall be on full time basis for a period of two years from the commencement of the academic term.

Project

Every candidate pursuing MSc Medical Imaging Technology course is required to carried out work on selected topics as project under the guidance of a recognized postgraduate teacher for a period of one year after the submission of synopsis. The results of a such a work shall be submitted in a form of a project.

Schedule of Examination

The university conducts two examinations in a year at an interval of not less than four to six months. A failed candidate needs to appear for both theory and practical examination in the failed subject/s only in the subsequent examination

Scheme of Examination

There shall be two university examinations, one at the end of the first year and the other at the end of second year, respectively. A candidate shall be eligible to appear for the first year M.Sc., Radio diagnosis examination at the end of one year from the commencement of the course. He/She should have satisfactorily completed the prescribed course and fulfilled the prescribed attendance
