The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was established with the aim of connecting medicine and judiciary. It was established in the year of 2002 and Post Graduate course was started in 2011. It ably caters to the educational needs of MBBS undergraduates, interns, post graduates, paramedical students and others. The department provides services to the largest number of medico legal cases and second largest number of post mortems done in the district. Here in the department weapon examination, crime scene examination, legal opinion, sexual assault case examination, drug screening, clinical autopsy, tele-consultation to peripheral doctors, disability assessment is done. The department also actively takes part in organ transplantation process in the hospital. The department is periodically involved in Continued Medical Education and research activities. The department is well equipped with office spaces, state of the art mortuary, cold storage,embalming facility, museum, library and of course, dedicated staff. The department has the reputation of being decorated with the highest number of medals in the college given by the university. The post graduates of the department have also won gold medal in university and national level quiz competition. The staff of the department won best paper presentation award in national conference and were also invited as guest faculty in various academic and social arena.
